It’s been a long and challenging two years, and we’re ready to go home! Whale Camp is planning to operate at our home site on beautiful Grand Manan Island, NB, for the summer of 2022!
In 2020, we canceled our plans due to COVID and ran five weeks of outdoor-based remote programming. In 2021 with extended border closures and continued concerns with COVID, we moved our entire program to the University of Maine at Machias and had a wonderful summer. We are so thankful to the University, to Captain Butch and Eastport Windjammers whale watching, to Diver Ed, Maine Outdoor School, Downeast Institute, and all the professors who helped our vision come to life in Maine! We’re really excited to bring some of the lessons we learned along the way to innovate our programs. More than anything, we’re excited to return to the fog, the bog, the tidepools, puffins, whales, and our friends on Grand Manan!
The US-Canada border is open in both directions to vaccinated travelers, but crossing the border remains very complicated with COVID testing requirements and traffic. We will have a backup plan prepared again for summer 2022 if travel restrictions or other health concerns return. Stay tuned for our registration opening in early December, and stay in touch!
We’re working to update the other areas of our website back to a Canada-based program; thanks for your patience as we work with limited staffing at this time! Please reach out with any questions via email.
